The Itata Valley is the southern border of the wine growing map of Chile. It is a vast, with terroirs close to the coast. It is a good area for excellent whites and reds, with vineyards planted on the flat ground or on the gentle slopes or in the coastal hills overlooking the sea. It has a wine growing history that goes back to the colonial period when Jesuits and grocers planted the first grapes brought from Spain. History tells us that the best Chilean wines of that time came from Concepción. That is to say, the valleys nearby, such as Itata. It produced wine in the Spanish way, as it had for centuries until it started to decline because everybody and thing moved to the central zone.
The modern wineries that have established in the valley not only produce wines of new grapes, but they also take advantage of the plentiful production of País and Moscatel de Alejandria along with other fine varieties such as Cabarnet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. |

From a German tradition, a traditional tour is offered that includes a walk around the Portezuelo area where the vineyards are located. There is also a tour of the wine cellar located in Quillon. The tour finishes with wine tasting.
